About me
I am a freelance writer and editor, a former writing instructor and copy editor, a sometimes rafting guide and traveler, and a constant but somewhat ineffective gardener. I live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband and cats, Trollop the Evil Genius and Orwell the Dunce. We're thinking of getting a dog, because Trollop needs something else to pick on and Orwell needs more stress in his life.
About my writing
My background and degrees are in writing, particularly nonfiction and journalism. I enjoy reading and writing magazine-style articles and working on promotional materials for causes and companies I care about. I am happy to do many types of writing for my clients, including blogging and website content; articles such as news, features, opinion, or press releases; brochures and promotional materials; and more.
If you need a term paper written, send me your name, the assignment, the class, and the school you attend and I'll be sure to forward your request to your instructor. I do not plagiarize, nor do I help others who try to do so.
About editing
My personal editing style could be called “compulsive revisionist”; I am constantly revising my own work for minimum wordiness and maximum impact. For my clients, I am happy to make edits and revisions based on your needs. I can consult on any stage of writing where you feel stymied: pre-writing and brainstorming, writing, and/or revising. Light or heavy editing help—I can do either, depending on your needs. While I prefer shorter writing assignments, my editing services have no length limit: nothing is too short or too long.
About proofreading
I have logged well over five years in various proofreading capacities, the most recent being two and a half years as a professional copy editor for a health publications company. As with editing, I can do light or heavy proofreading, and there is no length limit. Generally speaking, I offer two proofreading looks at a document: one where I make edits and suggestions, and a second look to ensure no mistakes were made in the revising process. If you have a long document, however, you should really consider having a second proofreader take a look (I'm happy to make recommendations). There's nothing like a set of fresh eyes for catching mistakes!
Questions?
If you're unsure whether or not my abilities can meet your needs, go ahead and contact me anyway. It's in our mutual interest for you to be satisfied, so I'm happy to recommend other writers, editors, or proofreaders if I am not the best fit for your job. If you're interested in working with me, please feel free to contact me via e-mail, chelseywaters(at)gmail(dot)com.
